Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Take a look at the FAQ or reach out anytime. If you’re feeling ready, go ahead and apply.

  • To obtain an Arizona marriage license, both partners must appear together in person at a county Clerk of the Superior Court office and present valid government-issued photo ID to verify age and identity. Arizona does not require a blood test or waiting period, so the license is issued the same day, and the fee (which varies by county) is paid at the time of application. The license is valid for 12 months statewide, allowing you to marry anywhere in Arizona, after which an authorized officiant must complete and return the signed license to the clerk—typically within 30 days—to officially record the marriage.

  • Several airports serve as gateways to visiting the Grand Canyon, ranging from tiny airstrips right next to the park to major international hubs several hours’ drive away. Grand Canyon National Park Airport (GCN) in Tusayan is the closest to the South Rim—just a few miles away—but it primarily handles private flights and charter tours rather than regular commercial airline service. For scheduled airline service, Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG) is the nearest commercial airport to the South Rim, about an 80–90 minute drive and popular for regional connections. Larger airports with many more flight options include Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), roughly a 3.5–4-hour drive north, and Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas, about 4–5 hours away, both offering frequent flights from across the U.S. and international destinations. Smaller regional options such as Prescott Regional Airport (PRC) also exist but have more limited flight schedules and services.

  • Bon Miller will recommend the optimum seasons for getting married at the Grand Canyon, as well as the best time of day. Bon Miller will also help you choose the best location that is appropriate for your group. (see question on permits). Bon Miller will arrange for your Officiant and can deliver your bouquet & boutonniere. Bon Miller can recommend lodging ideas as well as restaurants.

  • To apply for a wedding permit at Grand Canyon National Park, you must obtain a Special Use Permit from the National Park Service, as every ceremony location within the park (except indoor lodge spaces reserved through the lodges themselves) requires one. Start by choosing your desired ceremony date and preferred location—weddings can be scheduled up to one year in advance and require you to plan well ahead because requests are not expedited. Next, download and complete the park’s Special Use Permit application form, digitally sign it, and email it to grca_permits_mail@nps.gov along with proof of your non-refundable application fee payment made through Pay.gov. The park may then contact you with instructions on the full permit fee and processing, after which you’ll receive a draft permit to review, sign, and return. Once finalized and approved, you must carry the authorized permit with you on your wedding day; cleanup and compliance with all park rules—including restrictions on chairs, amplified sound, and decorations—are required.

  • Elopements can be 2 hours long when it’s just the two of you. If you invite guests and want group and family photos, you will want 3 hours minimum at your wedding location. If you decide to have bridal prep photos or a small gathering afterwards, you can arrange to have additional hours at a separate location.

Grand Canyon Elopement Guide:

GETTING TO THE GRAND CANYON

Flights to the Grand Canyon: The closest international airport is Phoenix SkyHarbor, with Las Vegas as an optional choice. 3 to 4 hr drives respectively.

Entering the Park: There are two entrances, the South and the East. Coming from Phoenix, the East Entrance is an option if you want to enjoy smaller lines and the Desert View (rim) drive. If you hold a pass called America the Beautiful, it’s free to enter (available at REI). The South Entrance is the busiest as it enters directly into the Village of Tusayan, the commercial hub.

Wedding Permits: There are 6 viewpoint locations available for your permit, and vary in the ability to accomodate guests, access, catering and bathrooms. Grand Canyon wedding permits start at $240 for your Grand Canyon Location. For $500. you can have the most private location Shoshone Pt. permit with the largest area for guests & catering, a covered gazebo with picnic tables, bathrooms, and (in my opinion) the best view location for your elopement. Shoshone Pt. books up the quickest, so put your application in!

SEASONS & SUNSETS

We highly suggest choosing a weekday. The Grand Canyon is remarkable any time of year. Winters are cold & windy and may have snow closures, however you can have the the entire park to yourselves! Summers are gorgeous with beautiful temperature, yet highly populated. A great window is fringe season of late Aug-Sept and March-June. The park has a bus schedule for a few of the view points, as driving is not an option, such as Yaki Pt. and Hermit Scenic overlook. Regardless of the season, the SUNSET is the best lighting. Sunrises are also an option if you are a morning person.

Secure your lodging, once you have secured your permit for your wedding date with the Park. The Squire is newly remodeled and considered a bride’s choice for staying at the Canyon. Little America in Flagstaff is an hour away. The Grand Canyon Train & Hotel is 45 min. away in historic Williams. Your photographer can guide you through the process and recommend vendors for florals, hair & make-up, catering & bakeries. Shoshone Pt. is the only view location that allows catering. All services are based in Flagstaff and Williams, a 45 min. drive away. Grand Canyon Bride offers an all-inclusive package that will include your photography & Officiant and bouquet.
